why would you rub gasoline on a wood carving? can I lessen the smell?
I recently visited Mexico and picked up some beautiful wooden carvings from street vendors in a poor area. These are blackened wood and REEK of gasoline - looks like they really rubbed them with it. Was that a blackener? What purpose does it serve? Is there any good way to get the smell out so I can display these in my house?
May have used gasoline to kill bugs or just burnt it to blacken it. I would leave it outside for a few weeks to air out and then clear coat the entire piece a couple of times
